Signs and Symptoms

A person with dry eye syndrome may experience signs and symptoms, which usually affect both eyes, as under:

  • Dry, sandy/gritty/scratchy, or filmy feeling
  • Burning or itching
  • Intermittent excessive tearing
  • Stringy mucus in or around your eyes
  • Redness of the eyes
  • Sharp or achy pain in or around the eyes
  • Eye fatigue
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Light sensitivity
  • Difficulty wearing contact lenses
  • Difficulty with night time driving
